Site Description

Members conduct biological and physical monitoring including direct underwater observation (dives), electro fishing, water quality sampling, stream habitat inventories, amphibian surveys, botanical surveys, minnow trapping, and seining. Office duties include, but are not limited to: research of habitat conservation tools and techniques, CEQA project review, database searches and entries (BIOS), GIS project management, manage photo monitoring project, and maintain field equipment. In addition to these duties you are also afforded the opportunity to work with other departments in the office (i.e., Fisheries, Marine Fisheries, Wildlife etc.).

Mission Statement

The mission of the Department of Fish and Game is to ‘manage California's diverse fish, wildlife, and plant resources, and the habitats upon which they depend, for their ecological values and for their use and enjoyment by the public.’ Coastal Conservation Planning (CCP) is a component of the Department’s Habitat Conservation Program Branch. The mission of CCP is to ‘restore and maintain healthy ecosystems by using holistic and strategic thinking, creativity, and the best available science

Major Projects

CEQA project review, Lake or Streambed Alteration Agreements (LSAA), and endangered species recovery efforts in Humboldt, Del Norte, Mendocino, and western Trinity counties.

Examples of Work

Conduct underwater observation of a large scale estuary streambank stabilization project to quantify salmonid utilization of habitat.

Work Location

619 2nd Street, Eureka, CA 95501. We are located in downtown Eureka, a stones throw from the bay, and within walking distance of the Boardwalk and lots of good food.

Resources Available

We have a plethora of state vehicles to choose from for field work, and supply our members with field gear we deem necessary for the tasks at hand.

Housing

We do not provide housing for members.
