Mission Statement

The Mission the California Department of Fish and Game North Coast Watershed Improvement Center is to facilitate the recovery of freshwater salmonid populations and habitat by working with private land owners, non-profit organizations, and public lands managers to prioritize, plan, fund, permit, implement, and monitor salmonid habitat restoration projects.

The Mission of the Department of Fish and Game is to manage California's diverse fish, wildlife, and plant resources, and the habitats upon which they depend, for their ecological values and for their use and enjoyment by the public

Major Projects

The biologist/mentors of the DFG Fortuna office work for the Anadromous Fisheries Restoration Grant Program with the goal of restoring river and estuary salmon habitat. We assist private landowners, non-profit organizations, and public land managers with prioritization, planning, funding, permitting, implementation, and monitoring of salmonid habitat restoration projects.

Examples of Work

The biologists for DFG Fortuna act as grant managers to administer funds to salmonid habitat improvement and salmonid monitoring projects. Each biologist has a geographic area of Northern California to cover. and we are all managed by Gary Flosi the supervisor here in Fortuna.
